Neveille’s Cross and Fox’s Socks are both in good shape after their wins at Uttoxeter.  Stan gave the pair of them excellent rides. The handicapper will no doubt take a dim view of Fox’s Socks but the race was actually very very poor contest.   Competition heads off to Market Rasen today and Forchena to Newton Abbot tomorrow. You Name Him seems fine this morning, he ran his race but got lonely from two out which cost him second place. Travelling anywhere after 9PM in this country, at this time of year is nothing short of painful. Every motorway seems to get closed for repairs and makes for an even longer journey home. I stick to my opinion that no race should be run after 6.30 PM. Those in charge don’t care and w...

It has been a busy few days gathering up horses from around the country. Old and new heads now have them over doors, I will write more detail later in the week but for now just update my thoughts page for You Name Him who heads to Southwell later today. To read my thoughts click here.

At Uttoxeter yesterday it felt as if Corona Virus was finally becoming a thing of the past, a decent crowd occupying all areas of the course was a joyful sight to behold. Sebastopol finished second for the fifth consecutive time, I feel sorry for the poor horse than anyone else. No one can say he is anything but consistent, he will now have a well deserved break and go over fences before the winte...

The trade in Ireland last week for stores was incredibly strong, the English bubble being burst certainly didn’t affect the trade. The horses kept coming and kept fetching very strong money throughout both days. Thankfully, many of us had our work done before the sale started and the bubble burst. I think it was the best collection of three-year-old stores I had seen for sometime and buying ...

Things remain fairly quiet here for the moment, it won’t be long before horses start to come back in. Most owners and trainers have the first two weeks of July in their minds and we are no different.   Kishorn and Fox’s Socks head to Southwell tomorrow, to read my thoughts click here.

Jim Bolger speaking out about illegal drug use in horse racing is causing a stir and rightly so. Numerous people believe that the use of steroid is rife in Ireland. Some Irish trainers results as regard to winners would suggest they have fallen off the edge of a cliff and they can’t all be bad horses, what has changed? Have they stopped something for fear of being cannon fodder for the highe...

Goffs sale was just mind blowing, any hope of a soft market was soon blown out the window, the trade for stores was record breaking for yet another year. It does take some working out given prize money is at an all time low yet the demand for horses has never been so strong. We all complain about prize money yet it doesn’t seem to be having any affect on the trade for horses. We were very pa...

It is very easy when a jockey puts their hand up and says they got it wrong, and that is what Joe Fanning was happy to do yesterday. Not many do that and in my experience it is only the top lads that have the confidence to do so. Competition will win again on the flat but we may have another go over hurdles next time.   Is it all down hill when struggling to get a game let alone a set of te...

Competition heads to Catterick tomorrow. To read my thoughts click here.   The yard is quiet and will remain so for another few weeks yet. Yesterday we worked Yes No Maybe So, Black Anthem, Baily’s Gorse, Hunting Percival, Sinndarella and Fox’s Socks.   Earlier in the week I received a dignity at work document and video. I am unsure how we have arrived at this place but w...

Typical Monday morning canters for those in training, Fontwell yesterday was bursting with people and it was great to see. I’m On Snap did it well in the end, she got a little lonely out in front and the stop start gallop of the race wasn’t ideal. She is in good shape this morning and ate every nut in her pot overnight.  Sebastopol has a line of 2nd places beside him and ran into ...

Neville’s Cross was all but foot perfect until pitching on landing at the second last when mounting what looked to be a strong challenge. Huge disappointment for us but worse for the horse who’s now had two falls from two runs over fences. Yesterdays fall was not a result of poor jumping it was just one of those things which happens to more experienced horses too. Thankfully, he ate ev...

Typical Monday morning canters for those in training yesterday, Teescomponentslass and Fox’s Socks schooled over hurldes. The horses are getting lighter on the ground around here, those in the field will be wanting this weather to change. San Augstin will now get a nice break as will King Ferdinand. Both horses seem in good order after running at Stratford.   This morning we worked Si...

A few hard yards on the sand for those in training this morning, we have given many an easy week as the rain is not what these horses want, they were all fresh enough yesterday morning so they will need to get their backs down a little before the weekend.   Hazzaar was disappointing and failed to back up a solid run and win at Warwick last time. His jumping was ugly yesterday and the ground...

Four days of following horses that couldn’t be afforded at Doncaster was frustrating. The bloodstock world seems to be in its own bubble. When the powers that be see that the sales of horses are pretty much unaffected as a result of their incapability the biggest fear with it all is that they will not address the major issues within it, prize money being at the forefront of my mind. It does ...

Heart break hotel again for Sebastopol last night, it was not a short journey home and I was pleased to get into bed. I’m sure many think Johnny got there too soon but I don’t. He jumped the last hurdle in company and just got done on the line. The positive to take from his last two runs is that he is running his races, something he hasn’t always done.    We weren&rsq...

Baily’s Gorse is fine after this morning after a disappointing performance at Worcester yesterday. He will step up in trip and have some head gear fitted.     This morning we schooled JohnBB, Black Anthem, Yes No Maybe So and Neville’s Cross over fences. All seem to jump nicely. JohnBB and Sebastopol head to Aintree tomorrow evening. To read my thoughts click here.

A long drive home from Market Rasen yesterday, Neville’s Cross appeared fine after his fall, that was not expected and I’ve no idea what he was thinking. His schooling at home is super and Stan was heard to say he’d jump around the Golden Button having schooled him. Thankfully, he seemed fine and will bounce back. San Agustin ran a more promising race and will have leant a little...

Pounding Poet and King Ferdinand schooled over hurdles. Those in training breezed through on the woodchip twice. I had a journey to Leicestershire returning Ginny’s Destiny to his owners. King Ferdinand, Algerias, You Name Him, Hunting Percival and San Agutin schooled over hurldes, Stung for Cash, Yes No Maybe So and Neville’s Cross over fences.    The punters thought they knew more that us yesterday and must be wrapping their hands in cling film as their hands must be burnt never mind their fingers.
