A busy and good morning schooling this morning. The Wills’s were here to see Polydora school over fences and Tony and David were also here to see Jester Jet doing the same. Coningsby, Sir Egbert and Air to Air also schooled over fences. Vado Forte, En Meme Temps, Kateson, Sebastopol, Meep Meep, Dorking Boy, Dorking Cock, Espinator, He’s a Goer and unnamed horses by Flemensfirth and Stowaway all schooled over hurdles. Those not schooling had quiet canters around the sand or up the hill.

I haven’t been watching much racing over the summer but I started to notice last winter that ground staff are unable to replace a broken hurdle in time for the hurdle to be jumped on the second circuit. I know the speed of horse racing has increased yet this seems ridiculous that they have suddenly become unable to replace a broken hurdle in time given they managed it for years and years. They seem to find the time to place 3 separate chevron markers in the hurdles by the time the horses get around again. It happened at Fontwell this afternoon and frustrates me for a number of reasons. Why is it that no one seems to be able to maintain standards these days, there seems to be a lack of a sense of urgency in people in modern society.
