Richard Johnson and Aidan Coleman were in yesterday morning, we schooled Equus Amadeus, Sword of Fate, Hattaab, Vado Forte, Thomas Patrick, Amadoue, Snapdragon Fire and Flashing Glance whose owners were here to see. They all jumped hurdles and did it nicely. A couple more horses came back in yesterday, a 3-year-old by Network and another by Spider Flight.    Flashing Glance   Sna...

The horses that worked yesterday, Sword of Fate, Equus Amadeus, Vado Forte, Kates Son, Amadoue, Silk Run, Flashing Glance and Thomas Patrick all had quiet canters today. Vado Forte and Flashing Glance had a pop around the loose school this evening.   Simon Sherwood delivered a mobile shelter this morning, it had been bought for a windsucker and a horse I feel has high sensitivity to dust. I...

Things are starting to get a little more exciting. Last week, Sword of Fate, Equus Amadeus, Flashing Glance, Vado Forte, Thomas Patrick, Kates Son and Snapdragonfire all went a bit quicker on the woodchip having but in some hard yards on the sand. They will repeat that tomorrow having had typical Monday morning canters today. All the horses have summered well and are in good nick. The article b...

The highlight of our day was certainly the drive home form Doncaster August sale, we left here in pouring rain early this morning, it poured all day at Doncaster sales where trade was very poor. I can’t recall attending a sale when trade has been so poor. The results suggest that the quality of bloodstock was below par, however, I was surprised by the lack of potential customers in attenda...

August already............. Both David John and Amadoue have come home from their races in good shape, David John was not helped by the rain softened ground. He was running a decent enough race until he rooted the 5th last. He got back into it 3 out but his chance had gone, there is no time to recover from a mistake of that severity at such a crucial time in the race. That’s the way it go...

Last week we welcomed back a couple of horses, Hattaab and Kimberlite Candy. The 3 year olds all spent the week loose schooling and will have a quiet month riding around the farm before upping their game again in September. Jester Jet, who had a small break and an unraced Midnight Legend gelding owned by Lady Cobham came back today. David John set off for Perth late morning, as always with our ...

A few changes to the racing calendar have been announced today some better than others -  Fantastic news in that 9.7 million of levy is set to be targeted at the mid to lower tiers. Jump meetings have been reduced by 3. Across the board we’ve got an increase of 30 evening meeting. This is another clear message that the powers that be think only of the general public and not of the horse...

The racing world was left in shock yesterday by the tragic accident of a stalls handler at Haydock. These men and women keep the wheels turning on race days and the work they do is all too often underestimated. It is a highly dangerous job but to be run over by the stalls is a freak and very sad accident. I have a love-hate relationship with social media and found something very un...

A mixed bag of weather in Cornwall last week with 6 kids, a 24-mile bike ride for Padstow to Bodmin jail was the final straw. Now back at work for a rest. Yesterday Vado Forte, Sword of Fate, Equus Amadeus and a few 3 year olds we gave a short break too all came back in. Flashing Glance returned this morning. All have had a very good summer at grass. A few more are due back this week too. Not ha...

Midnight Monty jumped beautifully until it really mattered, his jumping over the last 3 fences cost him dearly. Monty has had all sorts of problems to overcome and we have to bear that all in mind, he tries his hardest and we can ask for no more than that. Ridgeway Pearl made a very acceptable debut, on paper it was a very competitive bumper, she wasn’t beaten far and those ahead of her a...
