I can say I never been so pleased to see some rain, the state of the ground on racecourses isn’t the problem for us, it is the dust on the sand gallop. This morning showers allowed us to get all the 3 years olds trotting and lobbing around it this morning. Going up the hill on them is all well and good but I think lobbing around the sand teaching them to breath is far more important at this ...

Vivant, Silk Run, King Spirit, David’s Phoebe and David John did a bit more than the other couple that are running through the summer, the 3 years olds all went out and about around the farm and lobbed up the hill. They are now chilling in the field.    The handicapper didn’t miss Sword of Fate, he went up 12 for his 2 wins over fences last week, they also moved his hurdle ...

Wimbledon was a huge success, we saw two very competitive matches first up, the third game was a bit of a disappointment in that Nick Kyrgios couldn’t have made it any clearer if he tried that he simply didn’t want to be there.  If he were a horse, he would need headgear and probably need to feel some blue pipe occasionally. I had only ever been to Wimbledon on one other occa...

Still no phone, I called Vodafone to see what was happening only to be told I needed authority from the account holder to discuss the phone I managed to order on Tuesday. The conversation soon came to a close. Sword of Fate bounced back at Newton Abbott again this afternoon, 2 wins in 4 days is a fair achievement for any horse, Tommie gave him a good ride from the front and he ended up winning ...

A bit more Fleetwood Mac last night - still no phone.    We had a great morning with the 3-year-old stores, all bar one of them is riding beautifully around the ménage doing figures of eight, a few went over trotting poles when I wasn’t preoccupied with other things. The man on the ground is very important! The boys have done a great job getting them going and I will be si...

Needless to say I spent hours with Vodafone yesterday, it was all too good to be true. Initially, I asked for a new handset and a like for like contract and if possible a better deal. A few pound was knocked off the monthly payment – happy days. That seemed to go well and a phone was reportedly dispatched. I then received multiple text messages saying I had lost my free international calls, ...

Sword of Fate jumped 8 fences this morning prior to his run this evening at Stratford. I wonder how much water they have put on this morning, it is quite astonishing that horses can run on good to firm ground in the summer and the colours are mud splattered and in need of washing. Yet, on good ground in October they can generally be put back on their hangers until the next time. My view on summer ...

The horses from the Derby sale have all settled in nicely, none appear to have any vices so they will all be turned out tonight once the temperature drops. Tomorrow we will be up on their backs in the lunge pen, well someone will be. Anyone can fall off, the man on the lunge line is far more important! Please don't complain about the heat, below wasn't so long ago.   Sword of Fate heads to...

Any possibility of a let up in the store trade was blown out of the window this spring for sure. Willie Mullins told me yesterday, in his experience, the industry works on 9 year cycles and as we know history has a habit of repeating itself. I asked him if he knew where we were in the cycle, we may have to hang on in there for a bit yet!  Although trade was incredibly strong we managed to ...

Silk Run went for a canter this morning and has an entry at Cartmel on Friday.    Those that worked yesterday had a couple of quiet canters up the hill, the babies either hacked around the sand or were ridden in the ménage before being loose schooled. Below is the Stowaway gelding I bought in Goffs Ireland. He will be heading down the p2p route before being reoffered for sale, h...
