Quiet canters for the majority of the horse this morning except San Agustin and Camembert Electric who worked. Neville’s Cross schooled over some hurdles in preparation for his run on Monday.
Having spoken to John Chinn this morning he told me that 3mm of water is evaporating daily, he would know as he’s one of the biggest and most successful fruit growers in the country. Maybe clerks should have a hot line to him to prevent further over watering. Market Rasen have been applying 8mm daily. I fear that too could be over watered for good ground horses.
Glory and Fortune and Argonauta made their way up north having had a light canter this morning. To read my thoughts on them click here. I will be late home tomorrow so will add my thoughts on Neville’s Cross too.
As was once said, “if you threw other people’s problems up in the air you’d still keep your own.” Lorna Brooke has been put in an induced coma after her fall at Taunton. Lorna is one of those people who always has a smile on her face and is always pleased to see you. I have on occasions given her a hand at the races, she is regularly looking after the horses in the stables as well as riding them in their race. I’ve seen her prepare the horse to run, ride it, weigh in and then wash and cool it off. To see her and her family suffer with this is just tragic. We just never know what is around the corner and I just hope she comes out the other side with a decent quality of life. In modern society with sexism and god knows what else I know that this could be misinterpreted but, statically given that so few girls race ride when compared to boys their stats on rides to serious accidents is surely quite alarming.
Have a good weekend and enjoy the sunshine.
