A little earlier start than normal this morning, Glory and Fortune and Thomas Patrick schooled over ten fences on the grass, those that worked yesterday had a couple of quiet canters up the hill and others put in some hard yards around the sand. Tom Macfarlane and his parents were here to see a few horses canter around the sand.
Tea Clipper certainly didn’t disappoint and did what we had hoped for, one could shave using his skin as a mirror, Eamonn who rides him every day was very happy with him and we were naturally delighted to win the feature race at Chepstow on what is often described as the curtain raiser of the national hunt season. With all the protocol in place, I was great that Ash and Jerry decided to make the journey to Chepstow, they had to sit in their car for a while as there was over thirty owners on the track but the wait was worth it. Ridiculously, we were unable to have a drink together after the race so we headed down the local for half an hour. I’m sure the journey home for them was far easier than the one from Exeter earlier in the week.
I’m off for a cup of tea and to watch the replay more than once.
