It was an early start this morning and we were most grateful to have Richard Patrick in for four lots, Sholto managed his daily six as he’s now on Christmas holidays. Every horse had quiet routine canters excluding Lagonda, Stunsail, Unohu and Gold Clermont who all had little blows on the hill.

It certainly went to plan at Doncaster with L’Incorrigible picking up where he left off, back in the winner’s circle. He will need another look around somewhere under a penalty before we think about a decent prize. No horse deserved to win more so than Vado Forte, the race was set up for him and it finally came together. Robbie Power gave the pair of them brilliant rides. I was asked to explain where the improvement came from with Vado! He’s had eight runs over fences and has hardly missed a beat in any of them.

Velasco took a step forward running a nice race at Hereford to finish second again and Roger Rarebit was all legs and arms around the home turn, he put his head down and galloped to the line nicely. There was never any pressure on Roger, he’s three years old and has the whole of his racing life ahead of him. It was a case of start educating him or turn him out to grow on. We will see how he comes out of the experience before making a decision of whether to go again or leave him off to grow and fill out. He has schooled nicely and could even have a spin over hurdles in the new year.

Lagonda heads to Carlisle tomorrow. Stunsail and Unohu to Ayr for Monday along with Gold Clermont Plumpton and Silent Man Ffos Las. To read my thoughts on all click here
